Schlage Introduces New Reader Solutions

Schlage proudly announces the release of two exciting solutions in its reader product offering.  The new multi-technology readers offers a seamless transition from current proximity credentials to smart card technology without having to replace the reader.  And our scramble keypad reader displays the numbered buttons randomly on the reader face to help keep individual PIN numbers secure.

SFX multi-technology reader seriesSchlage Multi-Technology Readers

Schlage’s new line of multi-technology access control readers give you an innovative solution that allows you a clean migration path from standard proximity credential technology to contactless smart card credentials.

As smart card technology replaces proximity in the marketplace, multi-technology readers are a solution that will provide a smooth transition from one to another.  Schlage’s new SFX multi-technology reader series recognizes both 125kHz proximity technology and 13.56MHz contactless smart technology. This dual capability provides a migration path for users from old proximity platforms to new smart card technology by either mixing credential types or replacing them all in a phased transition.

Currently there are two ISO standards governing contactless smart cards – ISO14443 (faster transmission speed) and ISO15693 (longer read range). The Schlage SFX multi-technology readers support both ISO standard technologies.

Schlage readers are capable of reading most industry standard technologies, including standard HID and GE-Casi proximity formats, as well as most smart card technologies  including ISO-X, MIFARE, DESFire, iCLASS®, Texas Instruments Tag-it® and more. This allows a user to choose whether they want an “open” system in which they are free to purchase cards from numerous sources or to choose a more proprietary system for added security.

Because Schlage readers read so many card technologies, a multi-location or multi-tenant user can mix several card technologies in the same reader system. For instance, a user may have HID credentials in one location, CASI credentials in a second location, and MIFARE cards in a third location and a desire to cross-utilize credentials between locations. Previously, no reader would allow this flexibility, but with the new Schlage readers it is now possible.

XACTT is a revolutionary technology that allows users to migrate from existing proximity cards to contactless smart credentials without any database administration. Utilizing a simple three step card presentation process, badge information is transferred from the proximity card and then written to a secure sector of a smart credential. When the process is complete, the panel sees the same data from the new smart credential that it saw from the old prox credential. For the customer, this means fewer headaches and hassles and time and money saved!

Schlage multi-technology readers include much higher security options when compared to standard proximity readers and are more secure than competitive contactless (13.56MHz) readers as well. Unlike the unprotected, “open” data transmission associated with basic proximity technology (125kHz), the data transmission of a Schlage,13.56MHz contactless reader is protected with the most advanced cryptographic techniques, including 128 bit keys, three-way mutual authentication, encryption, and message authentication codes. Simply put, the contactless Schlage reader data transmission would be virtually impossible to intercept.

Schlage Scramble Keypad
Schlage SER111-W scramble keypad reader
Traditional keypad readers can be viewed as less than secure in their standard form.  It is possible for wandering eyes to learn your unique PIN code without your knowledge. Schlage now offers a secure alternative.

The new Schlage SERlll-W scramble keypad reader is designed to prevent onlookers from detecting the PIN code being entered. The LED displays a randomly allocated set of numbers from 0 to 9. The position of the numbers on the keypad changes every time the reader is activated. Only the user standing directly in front of the keypad can see the scrambled digits.

The Schlage SERlll-W utilizes a Wiegand communication protocol and offers over 3.6 million unique permutations. The durable membrane keypad is weatherized for outdoor use. The Schlage Scramble Keypad is available in gray or black.
