New Schlage KC2 Locks and SNAP Programmer Simplifies Offline Access Control Management

Schlage electronic security announces the perfect offline access control solution with its new and simple to use Schlage King Cobra Series 2 (KC2) Locks, SNAP™ Programmer and PC Application.  This next generation in the Schlage lock family is smart, easy to use and very affordable; providing users an intuitive offline lock solution.

As an upgrade from mechanical keys, KC2 locks let end users secure doors, store up to 1,000 users per lock, and access an audit trial of the last 1000 uses to see who went where and when.

The SNAP programmer was designed specifically for use with KC2 locks and is used to move files between the PC and the locks, allowing the user to download user lists or pull audit trail history.  SNAP communicates with the PC though a standard USB interface, much like USB memory stick device.

The SNAP PC Application is a simple program that runs on most PC’s.  The design is very intuitive and simple to use with drag and drop features and data import/export hot buttons, making setting up and managing the access control in your facility a snap.

Most access control solutions are designed either for simple manual programming at the lock or for powerful offline or online functionality through software.  The KC2 lock and SNAP programmer bridge the gap between the simplicity of a USB memory device and access control lock management.  The system is specifically designed for the user with multiple locks and employees, who finds it impractical to program each lock manually through the keypad, yet does not require the fully featured functions of higher price online lock and software solutions.   Examples include retail operations, small to medium sized businesses, property management firms, commercial office buildings, schools, hospitals, airports and many other institutional facilities.

KC2 locks can be programmed using 3 different methods. This migration strategy means the customer only needs to buy the lock once, but has access to a variety of lock programming and management options to accommodate changing security needs.

King Cobra locks- 3 different levels of programming methods

  1. Keypad Programming:  All lock programming is done via the lock keypad.  This accommodates up to 120 users and provides no audit trail capability.
  2. SNAP Programming:  All lock programming is done via the SNAP programmer.  This provides up to 1,000 users and 1,000 audit events.
  3. SMS Express Programming:  KC2 locks can be set up and managed using Schlage SMS Express software and an associated PDA. SMS Express provides the programming of smart time features for auto-lock and un-lock functions.

KC2 locks are available in both the KC5000 series (for cylindrical and mortise locks) as well as the KC9000 Narrow Stile series (for aluminum doors).  There is also an upgrade kit that adds the functionality of the KC2 into an existing King Cobra lock.  KC2 locks include all the standard King Cobra features you have come to expect:

  • Great aesthetics with five architectural finishes and two lever designs.
  • The iButton credential reader included as a standard part of every lock.
  • A 12 button keypad with easy to read digits and Braille dots on the “5” key.
  • A full mortise cylinder allows for integration into any existing master keyed facility.
  • Battery power provides 80,000 cycles.
  • Schlage Vandlguard® theft deterrent break away levers.

Several unique models are also available:

  • The KC2 Office Function lock provides a convenient lock/unlock button on the inside of the door, making it quick and easy to allow credential-free passage during the day and credential-only access at night.
  • The KCR2 retrofit model provides and easy upgrade path from a mechanical pushbutton lock by matching the existing door prep and covering the lock footprint for a clean finish.

KC2 locks, combined with the SNAP Programmer and SNAP PC Application, takes offline access control management to a whole new level – a much simpler one.  The market has asked for a more intuitive offline lock solution.  The new KC2 and SNAP deliver this and do not require certification or special training.  More importantly, the customer will not forget how they work between uses.
