Lockdown Capability

Keeping people safe and secure where they work and thrive is paramount. In many schools, buildings and health care facilities, lockdown capability is a component of the larger security and safety plan. Lockdown solutions must meet code requirements and allow for free egress. Depending on the solution, lockdown can be initiated immediately at the opening with classroom solutions or from a centralized location when manged through Electronic Access Control.

Electronic Access Control

No two buildings are alike, that's why there are a variety of Electronic Access Control (EAC) solutions to address the unique requirements of your facility. With EAC, facilities get greater visibility and control of openings and can dictate when and where people are granted access. These unique requirements also determine what type of software solutions fit best, and shape the strategy for the appropriate credential solutions and services. The age and structure of your building, as well as the specific applications for EAC will influence the choice for wired or wireless solutions.

Credential Solutions and Services

Electronic access control solutions center around the credential technology. At Schlage, we believe in open and interoperable credential solutions that provide the greatest utility and flexibility for the end user. That is why we partner with NXP and its globally leading MIFARE® brand and offer services like Custom Encryption Keys. Your initial credential investment can lock you into a long-term path, it is very important to assess currrent and future use cases and requirements in advance of making this desicion.

Key Systems

Higher security key systems involve the use of administratively controlled keys in cylinders that feature added physical security elements. The ideal key system uses restricted, patent protected keyways so that only the original manufacturer can produce them and their release is managed by a specific agreement. The cylinder design should include multiple locking mechanisms to make picking or bumping extremely difficult. These are an excellent means to achieve upgraded levels of security, but only a cylinder that is UL 437 listed can claim to be "high security." Within the Schlage portfolio, these are Primus cylinders tested and proven to endure extreme levels of physical attack.

Vandal Resistance

Of the many ways vandals and thieves try to defeat a lock, using leverage in an attempt to force the exterior lever from a fixed, locked position, is common. Vandlgard® locked lever engagement allows the lever to move freely within its natural range of motion while in a locked state to help ensure the chassis remains undamaged during an attack.

Grade 1 Mechanical Locks

Higher levels of security go beyond key or credential type and lock functionality. The structure of the lock itself matters. Mortise locks are considered to be higher security on structure alone for three reasons: multiple latches, a larger, heavier and mechanically more complex chassis, and only mortise locks offer multi-point locking options. This doesn't mean other locks shouldn't also be considered high security. The ND Series cylindrical lock and B Series deadbolts as a Grade 1 locks will have better levels of security within their structures than a Grade 2 option.

Credentials are assigned to each user and can be set up to work on specific openings, at specific times. MIFARE® DESFire® EV smart cards feature the latest AES encryption to ensure that data is secured before, during and after the transaction
Multi-technology readers, including the MT and MTB Series, are compatible with encrypted smart and mobile credentials and are lockdown capable. For added security select the option with keypad to enable multi-factor (card+PIN) authentication
When real-time lockdown or card+PIN authentication is required for interior doors, choose Grade 1 AD300 wired or AD400 wireless locks
Software is the backbone of any EAC system. A wide variety of Physical Access Control System (PACS) alliances have integrated Schlage readers and electronic locks into their solutions. Capabilities will vary by provider and can include real-time visibility and control, centralized lockdown, and applications beyond access control
